Missed a week, but hey, life happens. We made it to the middle of the week.

Today is the last day of the college football off-season* and for that reason, I am giddy with excitement. Here’s tomorrow’s slate via ESPN:

* There were a few games last Saturday, but this is the true week 1

Not exactly a loaded day, but it’s kinda like when it turns 60 degrees for the first time of the spring in the north so everyone goes outside and acts like it’s summer. Tomorrow is just a tease, but, in a couple of days we’ll have Michigan @ Notre Dame to really let us know it’s back.

My Alma Mater, Syracuse is at Western Michigan Friday evening and I gotta be honest, I’m a little bit torn on who I’m pulling for. I’ll bleed orange for Cuse my whole life but I personally worked for WMU’s head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator. I like those guys a lot and want to see WMU back at the top of my favorite non-Power 5 conference, the MAC. Ultimately, I’m good either way, I want to see a good, competitive game.

I just heard Pardon My Take talk about Mike Alstott and naturally, wondered where he played in college. The answer? Purdue University. Couldn’t have been a more perfect spot for the best fullback of all time to ground and pound on the college gridiron. If you love fullbacks and tough runs as much as me, give Alstott’s college highlights a watch:

Gotta love the Big Ten. It’s my favorite football conference because it’s still feels so pure to watch smash mouth teams play in football weather. As Big Cat says on his ads for the Big 10 Network, “Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, punt the ball. Run the ball maybe a pass to the flat for 3 yards, run the ball”, punt the ball.” It’s not true, but the games like that are fun to watch for me because when someone does finally go up 10-3 late in the 3rd quarter, it’s a huge deal. I don’t care for the Big 12 where 35 is a low score at halftime.

In more recent news, I’ve lost 12 beers worth of bets to my Dad over golf the past 2 days and just now I lost $5 on darts. I can’t stop won’t stop betting on myself regardless of thinking of my actual chances of winning. Always bet on yourself. It lets you know that you believe in you. Also, apparently it’s smart to bet against me if you ever get the chance. (Maybe I’ll set up some wagering games through Clean Smoke 🤔)

Congratulations on making it to the middle of the week, it’s the last hump day before football season. You did it. You made it. I hope the first half of this week felt like running behind Mike Alstott.

Just clearing the air.
