V v v interesting week around the country. Kansas snapped their 46-game road losing streak, Kentucky snapped their 31-game losing streak to Florida, Scott Frost’s homecoming in Lincoln was spoiled by Colorado, and Michigan State fell flat in Tempe, as did my over bet.

Let’s wrap it up:

My MORTAL LOCK (Officially 1-1):

Western Michigan (+28) @ Michigan, Final: UM 49 WMU 3

Michigan is kinda good. WMU was a biased pick. I worked for both the current head coach and offensive coordinator when they were at Syracuse. Shouldn’t bet with your heart I guess.

My Bets:

New segment, we review how bad I was at picking games

Western Michigan (+28) @ Michigan, Final: UM 49 WMU 3 LOSS

Mississippi State (-7.5) @ Kansas State, Final: MSU 31 KSU 10 WIN

Michigan State (-5.5) @ Arizona State, Final: ASU 16 MSU 13 LOSS

Already talked about WMU.

Mississippi State was an easy one.

I’m still very surprised Michigan State didn’t get it done. Home field advantage and 100+ degrees at 8:00 PM definitely didn’t help but, we have to ask, is Dantonio on the hot seat?

Nebraska (-3.5) vs Colorado, Final: CU 33 NEB 28 LOSS

Definitely a popular pick that went the other way. Nebraska’s week 1 game got cancelled so this was their first live action under Frost. Should’ve known better. Also should’ve known Colorado has a guy named Laviska Shenault Jr. He’s a tight end/wide receiver and an absolute STUD. Stats through 2 games:

Is that good?

Penn State @ Pittsburgh UNDER 55, Final: PSU 51 PITT 6 LOSS

Michigan State @ Arizona State OVER 54, Final: ASU 16 MSU 13 LOSS

No further comment. I’m on to next week.

Best Bets:

This is such an easy segment to do after the fact. Not breaking any news, just clearing the air. Maybe next week I’ll be able to list my own bets here.

Mississippi State (-7.5) @ Kansas State, Final: MSU 31 KSU 10

SEC team with an efficient offense and stout defense rolls into a middle-tier non-conference game and rolls. Stop me if you’ve heard that before.

Ohio State (-35) vs Rutgers, Final: OSU 52 RU 3

If this wasn’t played in Columbus, I think Rutgers would’ve put up a much better fight. But it was. And they didn’t. The last 2 years the Buckeyes won 58-0 and 56-0. Turns out history does tell us something.

Georiga Tech @ South Florida OVER 60, Final: USF 49 GT 38

A triple option team with a lightning bolt at QB in Tampa Bay weather against Charlie Strong’s second year with a ton of talent. Points points points.

Catch of the Year of the Week:

Fun fact: This was QB Matt Corral’s first career completion and Alex Weber’s first career catch. Sheesh.

What We Learned This Week:

Georgia is a force to be reckoned with and Bama should be worried.

Rolling into your ranked conference rival’s place in early September and manhandling them is no small task, but Georgia made it look easy. They out-rushed the Cocks 271-54, had 30 total first downs to SC’s 19, and picked them off twice despite allowing 282 yards through the air. The Dawgs are very very very legit and can pound the soul out of teams.

Oklahoma isn’t going to miss a beat without Baker

Kyler Murray is a damn threat for the Sooners and it’s a shame we won’t see him play football on Sundays. Oklahoma will be back in the playoff because of him and the weapons around him.

The SEC West needs to watch out for Texas A&M

They gave Clemson everything they could handle and more.

A&M has a crazy good home atmosphere, unfortunately their only home game vs a ranked SEC opponent is against LSU. They’re at Bama and at Auburn. Other than that, their stock is way up after that showing.

P.S. – I have a very strong theory that Clemson gets help to win these tight games. They have been the ACC’s only shot to get to the playoff each year, and it happens. Don’t get me wrong, they are a very good team with a damn NFL defensive line, but never forget the 2015 ACC championship game. Ghost offsides.

I’m very woke on the Tigers continuing to get this luck.

Next Week:

Maybe I’ll get motivated to post a Week 3 preview, but don’t count on it. Looking ahead now the best games are: 14 West Virginia @ NC State, 11 LSU @ 7 Auburn, 1 Alabama @ Ole Miss, 4 Ohio State vs 11 TCU in Jerry World, and USC @ Texas.

Have a great week and once again congratulations to Kansas and Kentucky breaking their respective losing streaks to remind their fan bases they have football teams:
