LSU took the day with their huge win at Auburn, Texas showed that maybe they’re back, and Syracuse beat down on the not-so-mighty Seminoles in the Dome.
Let’s wrap-up and form tackle Week 3.
My Mortal Locks (2-2 on the season):
Boise State @ Oklahoma State OVER 64, Final: OK State 44 BSU 21
Never a doubt!
Rutgers (+2.5) @ Kansas, Final: KU 55 Rutgers 14
Yikes. I learned something this week. Never bet on the worst game of the week and never ever rely on Rutgers to win you a bet.
Florida State @ Syracuse OVER 68, Final CUSE 30 FSU 7 LOSS
I know I had said to pick every Syracuse over you can. Now I have a new strategy, pick every Florida State UNDER you can. They are very very very bad. Willie Taggart’s seat is a god damn stove right now.
LSU +10 @ Auburn, Final LSU 22 AUB 21 WIN
I am pissed I didn’t take the money line. I had faith in Coach O when no one else did. I’m all aboard the LSU hype train right now.
Duke @ Baylor OVER 49, Final: Duke 40 Baylor 27 WIN
Duke is a good team. It’s very hard for people to look at them in football and think they ever have a shot, but they have built a solid program. And everyone knows the Big 12 doesn’t play defense. Another “should’ve taken the money line” game
USC +3 @ Texas, Final: Texas 37 USC 14 LOSS
Just a straight up bad pick. Learning more every week,
Washington -5 @ Utah, Final: Wash 21 Utah 7 WIN
Washington is good.
Houston -1.5 @ Texas Tech, Final: TTU 63 Houston 49 LOSS
Should’ve taken the over.
In case you missed my picks, you can see them here.
I went 4-1 picking the big games, but a terrible 4-6 for the rest. Total record on the week: 8-7.
The Pup had LSU and Boise State. 1-1 this week. He’s 1-3 on the season and clearly not happy about it.
PLAY OF THE YEAR
Someone get the Utes some stick ’em. Absolutely hilarious play all around. Jake Browning’s lowest of low-lights will be overshadowed by the fat man fumbling…untouched. This is why you stay up for the late PAC 12 game.
Bad Day for the Big Ten
Brutal look for my favorite conference. Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State are really the only teams surviving as contenders. RIP in peace Wisconsin.
What We Learned This Week:
LSU has IT.
I speculated about it after their win over Miami, now I’m sure of it. Going into Auburn and winning proves this team is legit. Will they beat Bama? No. Will they compete? Maybe. Either way, Tiger Nation has a lot to be excited about. They finally have a serviceable quarterback, but they almost lost him:
Ohio State did fine without Urban Meyer, now they get him back.
Like it or not, Urban will be back on the sidelines for OSU this week. They just beat TCU pretty convincingly and Dwayne Haskins looks great. Watch out for the Buckeyes.
Oklahoma State is your dark horse to win the Big 12.
With all this talk about Oklahoma and West Virginia, keep an eye on the Pokes. They hammered Boise at home and likely won’t be tested again until they go to Norman to face the Sooners November 10th. They should quietly continue their undefeated campaign until then, but their fate will be decided in November. @ Oklahoma, vs West Virginia, @ TCU. Gotta love how the Big 12 back-loads the schedules. That will be fun.
Florida State is very bad.
Considering all of the talent Willie Taggart adopted from Jimbo’s time in Tallahassee, he’s gotta be downright embarrassed right now. They lost their 2 games to ACC opponents by a combined score of 54-10. Their lone touchdown was in garbage time against Cuse. Other than that, calling their offense stagnant would be a compliment. I’m all for giving new coaches a fair chance to get their programs going, but come on man. They’ve got NIU at home next week to try to right the ship, but I wouldn’t count on it
Conference play really picks up, so we’ve got less blockbuster action. That being said, our best games are 22 Texas A&M @ 1 Alabama, 17 TCU @ Texas, Texas Tech @ 15 Oklahoma State, 7 Stanford @ 20 Oregon, and Arizona State @ 10 Washington. Nothing to be too hyped about unless you’re out west but I’m sure I’ll make it interesting by betting way more than I should.
Just clearing the air.
